The Music Man is a production telling the narrative of Harold Hill, a “professor” who tries to rob the town of River City. Set in the American Midwest, River City, where they buy a new pool table, but Harold convinces the town that it will corrupt the people and that they must instead start a music group for boys instead.
Conveniently, Harold has exactly what the City would require to start the musical band, he is traveling sales person after all and tries to sell his uniforms and musical instruments but with no intention of honoring his end of the bargain.
Convinced by his sham the City’s innocent inhabitants start handing over their money, but there is one smart person who sees right through Harold’s scheme, Marian Paroo, a part-time music teacher herself finds out the knowledge that she needs to charge him, but she soon has a change of mind.
