“By common consent, this is one of the finest dramas in the whole range of American theatre.” – The New York Times
SYNOPSIS
Willy Loman, a travelling and disillusioned salesman from Brooklyn, is faced with a lifetime’s worth of chasing after the American Dream that keeps evading him. Set in the time period after World War II in a society that is busy rebuilding, Willy’s unfulfilled hopes and dreams became so massive that they became his reality without actually coming to pass. The lines between lies and truth, failure and success, betrayal and trust, pride and humility, expectations and reality became so blurred for Willy that his path inevitably leads to the loss of his identity and mental stability, resulting in his seemingly perfect business and family life crashing down on him.
Arthur Miller’s two-act tragedy is told through a montage of memories, arguments, and dreams – just as unreliable as the protagonist Willy Loman’s reality, bringing the relevant questions, statements, and dehumanizing horrors of soul-crushing capitalist systems to the forefront.
“… a play consumed by the advertising slogan, by the imperialist promises of branding and consumerism, but it continues to move us.” – The Guardian
