Very few performances of any kind have the charm of Mamma Mia! It's one of those performances where most people who'll step into the doors at Winter Garden Theatre will know exactly what they're getting themselves into, either because they've seen the movie or the show before. Yet, when one of those first beats on the title "Mamma Mia!" or the legendary "Dancing Queen" start playing, you're going to be smiling from ear to ear, doing a little dance, and just having a blast! That magic that this performance brings is the reason why it continues to tour the country with an incredible cast that is sure to make this performance in New York, New York a memorable one!
As mentioned, one of the big reasons why folks still fill theaters like Winter Garden Theatre is the music that's part of this performance. It doesn't matter if you were around during the golden era of ABBA or if you heard "Fernando" for the first time in the 2008 movie. There are moments in this performance where those songs are going to hit home hard. Again, you also have your "Dancing Queen" and your "Lay All Your Love on Me" numbers that are there to bring a joyful expression, even if you're a bit hesitant!
